Tanya's vibrant mixed media exploration came about through experimentation with her collection of pressed flowers and leaves.
Beginning with castoff paints and second hand canvasses, she dove into the creative proses of combining mediums. This experimentation awakened a long buried love for the esthetic, visual arts. Tanya's inspiration comes from the dark mossy woods and sweeping mountain vistas of the Pacific northwest.
Along with hours of outdoor harvesting and pressing plants, her composition process usually begins with lots of glue, torn paper and castoff objects of various textures, weights, and colors. It's a delightfully messy, tactile, texture-rich adventure in design. Abstract patterns and hints of landscapes start to reveal themselves as she begins to lay down layer after layer of rich acrylic colors, blending with brushes, rags, sponges, and fingertips. Delicate details are worked in as the evolving composition comes to life, echoing a lifetime of familiar images and feelings.
