My name is Dennis Young, a ceramics artist and photographer based, until very recently in Toledo. My wife and I operated out of “Wondering Dog Studio” a compact space we created on our pottery. We now live in Georgetown, TX.
I try to keep my work as simple as possible, using standard shapes, colors and construction techniques. Even though I have thrown clay on the potter’s wheel I find slab building a lot more rewarding - it is the perfect process for allowing me to build exactly what I want to build.
I build a lot of boxes. I love boxes. Even though it is very difficult to keep them square and to get the lids to fit correctly they are wonderful when they come out. They provide an excellent medium for the glaze.
Some people have said that they see an Asian influence in my work. Since we lived in Japan for six years and China for two years it is very probable that the experience it has influenced me. Asians love simplicity and it shows in their art.
I am sorry that I am not able to fully participate in ARTrails this year and welcome you to my studio but hope you enjoy my work.
